Overload contactors incorporate bimetal overload relays with the contactor itself safeguarding motors from getting damaged by overvolting them. The thermal mechanisms switch off the contacts through a bimetal which detaches under bountiful current. For the eletronic type the breaker uses a current sensing microprocessor and phase unbalance detection. These are constructed bespoke for 3-phase motors and follow IEC 60947-4-1. Equipped with manual/automatic reset they are commonly used in pumps compressors and conveyors in industrial applications.
